VILLAGE ORDINANCE ON FIRE PITS, BONFIRES, BURNING, ETC
94.003 Bonfires
No person shall kindle or maintain any bonfire or authorize any fire to be kindled or maintained on or in any street, alley, road, land or public ground or upon any private lot, unless a written permit to do so shall first have been secured by the Fire Chief and approved by the Board of Trustees and Mayor.
94.024 Burning Garbage and Refuse Prohibited
It shall be unlawful for any person to burn garbage, refuse, or any materials within the village limits.
94.081 Section C (4) Declaration of Public Nuisances
Burning garbage or leaves. To burn any garbage, refuse, leaves, grasses, weeds or any organic horticultural landscape waste, except that the burning of elm tree wood and pruning of elm trees on the premises where it is produced shall be permitted as may be necessary, to control the spread of the Dutch elm disease: that all required permits from the Cook County, Illinois the state of Illinois or the United States have been obtained for the burning.
All ordinances listed above are enforced; fines from $50.00 up to $750.00 can be imposed.
Residents should remember there is no burning within Cook County.
Information on a true Fire pit
A pit dug into the ground or made from stones, masonry, etc. for keeping a fire used for cooking or warmth, not burning paper products or leaves
Outdoor Burning Fire Pit, GAS or WOOD Burning is approved such as the type that is sold at Target, Starfire Direct, Walmart, and Ultimate Patio, which is only use for burning of logs, not leaves or garbage
