In our effort to improve public and driver safety throughout the community, the Village of Crestwood, after careful consideration and detailed analysis, has installed a new and cutting edge photo-enforcement program, more commonly known as a “Red Light Camera” program.
The red light camera systems are located at the followingintersections in Crestwood;
Cicero Avenue and Midlothian Turnpike(Northbound and Southbound)
Cicero Avenue and 135th Street(Northbound, Southbound, and Westbound)
Cicero Avenue and Cal Sag Road(Northbound, Southbound, and Westbound)
Implementation of this type of program will reduce possible fatalities and severe personal injury due to driver carelessness and/or reckless disregard for the law. Red Light Cameras are only a cost to those whobreak the law, so please respect the rules of the road.
Thank you for assistance to keep our roadways safe by remembering to Choose Safety. Stop on Red.
Why has the Village of Crestwood decided to implement a Red Light Photo Enforcement Program?
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a recent nationwide study of deadly crashes at traffic signals indicates that 22 percent failed to obey the signal. In 2012, the fatality rate approached 700 and 133,000 injuries were recorded, all a result of red-light running. It is the Village’s belief that implementation of an Automated Red Light Photo Enforcement Program will reduce the number of red light collisions and injuries associated with such crashes. The goal of this program is to increase traffic safety in Crestwood by reducing red light running violations, red light crashes and red light injury crashes without impacting Village funds.
The availability of statistical analysis reports is contingent on crash data being released to the public by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
